Amvrakikos bay is one of the largest enclosed Bays in Greece. The Bay is 40 km long and 15 km wide. Thanks to an adjacent mountains works here thermal wind, which is here called Mistral.
Mistral starts after lunch, blows all afternoon on the strength of 15-20 knots and stops at sunset. Mistral blows from the sea along the bay towards the mountains. Bay Coast is over 120 km long and you can find here great spots for kiteboarding and windsurfing thanks to perfect wind conditions.
The two main kiting spots are called Koronisia ans Fakir. You can ride to spots with friends on the boat and make a great kitetrip or by car along the coast.
Koronisia lies on the opposite side of the Bay from Vonitsa. The journey from Vónitsa takes only 15 minutes boat ride. By car is spot most accessible from Arta. Kite beach is right next to the village Koronisia.
This is the ideal spot where to learn kiteboarding. Long sandy beach with shallow sandy botám is shallow up to 100m from shore. You can easily get up and control the kite in case of any problem.
Thanks to the great conditions you can expect great results. You’ll learn how to kite quickly and safely. After riding you can go for a drink to one of the nearby cafes or taste the specialties of the local fishermens.
Amvrakikos Bay is one of the few places in Greece where you can taste delicious local sardines and fresh shrimps.
Fakir / Paliabela
Fukir spot is located 10km from the village Paliabela (15km from Vonitsa ) . Long stony beach extends into the sea and divides the spot into two parts. Windward side of the beach ( where the wind is blowing perpendicular to the beach – on shore ) is 600 meters long and is suitable for all kiters who ride and can go up wind. Amvrakikos Bay is huge so it’s up to you how far you go on a trip J On the leeward side ( where the wind is blowing from the beach to the open sea – off shore ).
The waves here have no chance and the surface is perfectly smooth. Flat water is the best place for freestyle kiteboarding. In addition to the mirror flat surface is spot known for stable daily wind. In ideal conditions for freestyle you can focus on new tricks and heckle with other excellent riders.
Jumps are also for non-kiting friends interesting show. But you should pay attention when entry to water, because there is a danger in the form of echinuses. That’s why the name of the spot.
After a day of riding, you can enjoy the sunset and with a little luck you will see dolphins, who are symbol for Amvrakikos Bay.
